More About Motocross

Want to learn more about motocross? Kyle D.'s family (featured in the May 2010 issue of Clubhouse) found out about the sport from the owner of a local motorcycle shop. Anyone interested in the sport can contact a local store and ask about classes in their area.
It's important for new riders to gain proper training to get started safely. Summer camps are also available in different states, which include hard-core training as well as fun activities for kids. Whole families often attend, so parents can help out.
Kyle's racing schedule is often based on his parents' budget. Participating in motocross requires fees for practice days, entering each racing category and camping at the track. Kyle races about one weekend a month, and his family has noticed a lot of local bikers have stopped racing.
Kids on Kyle's team receive discounts for bike maintenance and parts, which helps keep expenses down. As racers compete at regional and national levels, some sponsorship is available. It's important for families to count the cost if they want to get involved in motocross.
Since motocross racing takes place on weekends, Kyle's family loads the bikes in the trailer and heads out early in their RV. Saturday is a practice day with time slots for various age groups. Even though he's at the track, Kyle doesn't miss church because his family attends services hosted by MXers for Jesus.
The Rev. Kevin Cozadd and his wife, Cassie, started MXers for Jesus. Both used to be youth pastors, and Kevin raced motocross for seven years and even competed professionally. He left the sport but was later called to minister to the motocross community. He and his family travel the country on the motocross circuit, sharing about Jesus Christ.
The Cozadds also team up with people such as Bob Elmore, chaplain with Motor Racing Outreach (MRO). MRO began in 1988 with the purpose of serving NASCAR Sprint Cup racing. Their outreach has grown over the years to include other motor sports such as stock car, motorcycle and powerboat racing.
Not only do these organizations provide church services, but they are a godly presence at the track whenever there is a need.
