A Conversion Catastrophe

based on Acts 9:1-22

Hi. I'm Reuben, one of Saul’s assistants. Actually, I was his assistant. I still would be if he hadn’t become a Christian.

On our way to Damascus, where we were planning to throw Christians in jail, a really bright light shone on Saul. Then he claims a voice said, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?”

“I am Jesus, the one whom you persecute,” the voice answered. “Get up and enter the city and you will be told what to do.”

Jesus spoke to him? Why would the Christians’ Messiah talk to Saul, their persecutor? I was really confused about that.

When Saul got up he was blind! Not good. How could he throw Christians in jail if he couldn’t see them? We had a problem.

When we got to Damascus, we went to a guy named Jason’s house where we stayed for three days. Saul wouldn’t eat anything.

On the third day, while Saul was alone in his room, a guy named Animanius—er, Anaminis—I mean Ananias came to our house to talk to him. I let Ananias go up there, but then I remembered that Animanus—I mean, Ananias was the leader of the Christians in Damascus!

I ran upstairs and saw Saul and Ana—that other guy. And Saul saw me! I was really happy until I found out that Ana-whatever-his-name-is must have tricked Saul because Saul has become a Christian!

This is crazy! How could he do this to me? I think I’ll get him locked up forever. Him and Anamininny! Now go away before I punch your lights out!
