adapted from Matthew 8:28-33 by Josiah, 12, New Jersey
Hey, you! Yeah, you. Come quickly! No, wait. Come back! I need to tell you something. My pigs. They were drowned! Don’t roll your eyes at me.
This morning I was tending my herd near the Gadarene hills, where two demon-possessed men live. Because of their violence, nobody goes near there.
Anyway, I was watching my pigs when a strange Galilean boat came ashore. I signaled to the other pig herders to see if they were expecting 13 men. They weren’t.
Suddenly the two violent men rushed toward the strangers. The men on the shore piled back into the boat, except for one. He just stood there! I thought he was crazy.
Oh, it was terrible. The two men ran down, screaming curses and waving clubs. They stopped short and yelled, "What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come to torture us before the appointed time?"
Until that point, I hadn’t any idea who these men from Galilee were. I did now! This man was Jesus, the famous teacher and healer with His 12 disciples. But how did the possessed men know Him? And why was He here?
The two demon-possessed men saw my herd of pigs and pleaded, "If you drive us out, cast us into the herd of pigs."
Then to my amazement, Jesus replied, "Go!" And with loud, hellish screams, the demons left the two and jumped into my herd of pigs. Then the pigs ran into the lake and quickly drowned.
Oh, my poor pigs! That Jesus is a criminal! He needs to be locked up forever! Now that you’ve heard my story, go quickly into town and report it to the soldiers.
