Report on Unusual Happenings

based on Daniel 6:1-24

Dear Minister Rrourn:

We were lounging about one afternoon, when we heard a commotion outside the entrance to our pit. Maybe some terrific treat was about to be thrown down! The door opened, and someone wearing the purple stripe of royal service was pushed onto the inside ledge.

A regal but tearful voice called out, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”

A stone was placed over the mouth of our home, making it obvious that our guest was NOT going to leave alive!

Curiously enough, instead of pounding on the door and screaming to be let out, Belteshazzar got on his knees and prayed: “Here I am, LORD. I am Your servant. If it is Your will that I am eaten by these lions, so be it. But, LORD, if You wish for me to continue to be Your witness here, then save me.”

Suddenly he fell. Just then I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Eat not My servant Daniel, whom you know as Belteshazzar. He is to be My witness in the court of the Medes and the Persians!”

Well, I didn’t want to disobey a command from heaven, but I couldn’t say the same for my subjects.

At that moment, though, I felt a curious tingling in my mouth. I couldn’t open it! Neither could my followers, judging by their actions. We passed the night tussling and trying to get our mouths open while Daniel continued praying.

The next morning, I heard the regal voice calling out: “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”

Well, I knew He had, and Daniel answered the same. Then Daniel was hauled out, and our mouths opened! Not long after that, we got three people for breakfast. Yum!

Sincerely,
Riham, Governor of the Susa Lions
