Where do you go to worship God?
King Solomon needed someone to make special things for the temple. He wanted only the best, and he needed just the right person to do the job. King Solomon asked a man named Huram to do this important work. The king knew God had given Huram special talents for making things out of a beautiful metal called bronze.
What special talents has God given you?
Huram happily went to work. First, he made two giant bronze pillars — tall poles, decorated with bronze fruits and flowers. Second, he placed one pillar on each side of the main doorway to the temple.
Bronze is a metal often used for making pieces of art. What are some other things made out of metal?
After making pillars, Huram built a large pool out of bronze. It rested on a base of 12 bronze oxen grouped in threes. Each group of oxen faced a different direction: north, south, east and west.
Have you ever traveled north or south of where you live? Where did you go?
The beautiful bronze pool was called the Sea. The priests used this pool to wash their hands and feet so they would be clean when they worshiped God in the temple.
Have you ever been to the sea or a large lake? How did you feel standing near so much water?
Huram built 10 carts out of bronze. On each cart Huram placed a large water basin or bowl. Huram wanted the carts and water basins to honor God, so he decorated them. On the carts, he designed pictures of carved palm trees, lions, oxen and angels.
If you were making a picture to honor God, what would it look like?
Huram made pots, shovels and bowls to be used in the temple. People would use these things when they brought sacrifices of meat or bread to the Lord.
If you visited the temple to worship God, what things would you take with you?
At last Huram was finished doing all of his work at the temple. He had worked hard and given his best for King Solomon. But most important, through his work, Huram brought glory and honor to his great God.
What can you do with your talents to bring God glory?
