Does God Really Answer My Prayers?
by Jonathan Graf
Amy's father doesn't know God, so Amy has prayed for him for years.
Before this last summer, an idea came to Amy as she prayed.
Why not pray that he will go to church with me? she thought.
After praying for a few weeks, Amy asked him if he would go to church with her. He said, "Yes."
So on a Sunday in June, Amy excitedly sat in church next to her father. And her faith grew, because she knew God heard her prayers and answered them.
You may sometimes think you're too young for God to pay attention to your prayers. But that is simply not true. He loves to hear the prayers of children. And He loves to answer them.
One time Jesus had a child stand with Him when He said, "The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child" (Matthew 18:4, NCV).
As a kid, you have a special quality God absolutely loves: humility. Humility means you know who you are--a child. You also know who God is--a loving Father. When you pray to Him, you pray knowing God will do whatever He thinks is best for you. Praying like that shows a humble attitude, and God loves that.
You also have a faith God loves. When you pray, you believe God hears you and will answer. And God always answers prayers. He may answer, "Yes," right away like He did with Amy. That's fun because you can see God working in your life.
God may say, "Not now." Waiting isn't easy. But you need to have faith that God knows what He's doing. His timing is always perfect, so you should relax, be patient and not worry.
God also answers, "No." And sometimes it's hard to understand why God won't give you everything you want. That's when you have to trust Him and His plan for your life even more.
But no matter what God answers, know that He loves you and wants the best for you.
Remember, God wants to hear from you. All you have to do is talk to Him. He is listening. The more you pray, the more you see God do amazing things.
