If I Were a Lion...
by Joan Stevenson

If I were a lion, I'd have a mighty roar.
If I were an eagle, I'd spread my wings and soar.

If I were a monkey, I'd swing among the trees.
If I were a warthog, I'd eat upon my knees.

If I were a turtle, I'd burrow underground.
If I were a lizard, I'd never make a sound.

If I were a pelican, I'd trap fish in my bill.
If I were a mountain goat, I'd clamber up a hill.

If I were a camel, I'd drink and drink and drink.
If I were a goldfish, I'd swim and never blink.

If I were a parrot, I'd yakkity-yakkity-yak.
If I were an aardvark, I'd eat bugs as a snack.

If I were a porpoise, I'd swim and sing a song.
If I were a hedgehog, I'd hunt the whole night long.

If I were an ibis, I'd stand upon one leg.
If I were an ostrich, I'd lay the biggest egg.

If I were a grizzly bear, I'd sleep the winter through.
If I were an angry skunk, I'd be a stink-a-roo.

But God made me special, as He set me apart . . .
Created in His image and after His own heart.

“So God created man in his own likeness. He created him in the likeness of God. He created them as male and female.” —Genesis 1:27
