Wouldn’t it be nice if you could write letters to God and receive hand-written responses from Him in the next day’s mail? Use this one-of-a-kind journal to write your prayers and praises as “Dear God . . .” letters to your heavenly Father. As time passes, look back at what you’ve written and take note of how God answers prayers.
Gather
different kinds of decorative paper or fabric permanent marker
blank hardback sketchbook
decoupage glue
small foam paintbrush
alphabet stickers or torn-out letters from old magazines
scissors
Go
1. Tear or cut out several different-sized pieces of decorative paper or fabric. Old magazines, calendars, greeting cards, pieces of denim, scrapbook paper, wrapping paper or flat, dried flowers will work. Note: Avoid light-colored papers with dark backings, as the dark side may show through when decoupage glue is applied.
2. Use a permanent marker to write a Bible verse about prayer on one piece of paper. Good verses include: Philippians 1:4; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Philemon 1:4; Colossians 4:2 and Ephesians 6:18.
3. Arrange all your paper pieces in an attractive collage on the cover of the sketchbook. Plan for several of your pieces to overlap the edge.
4. Starting with the largest background pieces, paint a coat of decoupage glue on the backside of each piece of paper or fabric. Stick it onto the cover until the entire cover (and spine, too, if desired) is covered.
5. Let the book dry.
6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 with the back cover (if desired).
7. Use alphabet stickers (or magazine letter cut-outs) to spell out a title for your prayer journal, such as “[Your name] Asked, God Answered.”
8. Follow the instructions on the decoupage glue to apply the proper number of topcoats to your journal. Let dry thoroughly.
9. Let your God-given creativity run wild on the inside of your journal. Use photos or sketch pictures of people and places. Then stamp names with alphabet stamps or use gel pens. Share everything with God and remember to go back at points to see how God is working in your life.
