Meet the Producers

John Fornof has been writing and producing for radio and television since 1985. He’s received three Addy Awards for commercials and two Emmy awards for his television documentary work. He won a state humanities grant to produce a civil rights documentary, “A Quiet Revolution,” which was aired on Alabama Public Television.

He currently writes and directs for Adventures in Odyssey, a family radio drama heard on over 1,600 radio stations. He also produced the Last Chance Detectives radio show, starring Daryl Sabara (Spy Kids) and June Lockhart (“Lassie,” “Lost in Space”). His first book, “Mystery of the Hooded Horseman,” was published in 2002 by Tommy Nelson as part of the “Mysteries in Odyssey” series.

He’s also a writer, voice director, and associate producer for Ribbits! — an award-winning computer-animated children’s program produced by Focus on the Family. He’s written several Ribbits! books, which will be published by Zonderkidz over the next years.

He’s married to the former Karen Nettles and has two boys, ages 14 and 13, along with a 4-year-old daughter.

Robert "Bob" Vernon was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. His father was a Los Angeles Police officer who frequently managed to smuggle young “Bobby” on to the working sets of films. It was there on the Universal lot that the film bug first bit him.

Bob attended Biola University and graduated with a degree in Film Production in 1982. He began his career as a freelance video cameraman, shooting both studio and sports segments for all three major networks.

Bob’s interests turned to editing and in 1983 he landed a job at Johnny Carson Productions. There, he came up through the post-production ranks where he finally ended up as an assistant editor for two seasons of “TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes.” Bob became a full-fledged editor on “The Tonight Show: 35th Anniversary Special.”

In 1986, Bob became one of the four founding members of a new Christian film ministry: Focus On the Family Films.

Bob wore many hats, functioning as Associate/Co-Producer, Production Manager, Post Supervisor and Editor on the following highly acclaimed films: “Twice Pardoned,” “A Man Called Norman,” “Fatal Addiction” and “Molder of Dreams.”

Not only did each film successively win the coveted CBA Film of the Year award, but each outperformed the last — setting new all-time records in the CBA film market.

During this time, Bob started his own post-production business, Renegade Productions. He served as Online editor for over a hundred different professional clients.

When Focus on the Family moved to Colorado Springs, Bob stayed behind in California and was promoted to Senior Producer over Focus’ new Dramatic Films division. He produced and directed the highly successful series, Adventures In Odyssey. He also wrote most of the scripts for the animated series.

Bob also created a new 35mm live-action series for Focus called, “The Last Chance Detectives.” Considered the “high water mark” for production quality in the CBA, Bob produced, wrote and directed this mystery series for kids.

More recently, Bob wrote and directed his first feature film, an action/comedy entitled “Road to Redemption”. It was released in theatres nationwide in Spring 2001.

Bob is a published author and continues to produce, direct, write and edit for clients ranging from Sony Entertainment to ABC Family Channel.
