Coloring Book

by Bethany, 13, from Washington

I sit on the shelf
All by myself
Waiting with great anxiety
For someone to open me excitedly
I feel the soft crayons rubbing my skin
I love it when people color me in
They change me from quiet to loud
They add personality to my thought cloud
Slowly, ever slowly, my pages get filled
With beautiful colors always willed
My now pretty pages get closed together
Wait until next time, I’ll look even better
