Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Flint Lockwood has dreamed of becoming a famous inventor for most of his life. However, all of his ideas, including his spray-on shoes and hair unbalder, end in disaster. Despite his failures, Flint's mother always encouraged him, until her death, which leaves Flint alone with his father, Tim.

The two don't communicate well because Tim doesn't understand Flint's scientific world, and Flint doesn't understand his father's world of fishing. Flint seeks to prove himself as a great inventor by making an invention that changes water into food. At first Flint's machine appears as if it's failed, until cheeseburgers start raining from the sky.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which is based loosely on the children's book, has plenty of cartoonish bangs and crashes—not to mention food floods and tornadoes. Many of the characters use unfriendly names to describe Flint, and the town mayor needs to clean up his language. Plus, a little bathroom humor sneaks into the plot. There are also instances of stealing.

However, the movie pulls through with a positive message about the value of a loving family, which should be prized above all else—including popularity and money. There are plenty of laughs. Flint also learns wisdom from his father about how greed and laziness are not good.
