Tangled

Witchy Mother Gothel knows one thing for sure: She wants to stay young and healthy forever. So when the queen gives birth to a baby named Rapunzel, Mother Gothel can't help but notice that the infant's golden locks have a unique shimmer. Mother G kidnaps the baby and smuggles her to a secret tower to raise as her own. Soon Mother G discovers that as long as Rapunzel's hair remains uncut, she will stay young forever!

There's only one problem: The girl with the long shimmering hair isn't a little girl any more. Rapunzel is now a restless young woman who dreams of seeing the nearby kingdom up close. So when a dangerous-ish and rather handsome thief name Flynn Ryder unexpectedly climbs in Rapunzel's tower window, things start getting . . .hairy.

Tangled is a story of heroism and self-discovery. In spite of Rapunzel’s imprisonment, the young girl is a loyal daughter who tries to make her world as sun-filled and pleasant as possible. Thanks to Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder realizes that there is more to him than a thief. In the end, Flynn becomes a hero willing to do what's right—even if that means giving up his life for the one he loves.

Throughout the film, Flynn is repeatedly “injured” by Rapunzel and others. He endures falls, smacks on the head and being tossed about, but it is all silly. Magic is briefly mentioned, and Rapunzel sings an incantation to keep Mother G young.

This age-old fairy tale has surely been updated. Rapunzel is much more self-reliant than most of the other Disney princesses, and Flynn is a bit gooier than Prince Charming. But the classic tale, with its endearing heroine and courageous hero, loses none of its charm. As far as a family movie night is concerned, Tangled is plenty easy to get wrapped up in.
