MPAA Rating: PG
As far as Harry knows, his parents were killed in a car crash when he was a baby, and he’s stuck with his aunt and uncle. Harry sleeps in a closet and waits on his relatives, including his pudgy cousin Dudley. But as Harry’s 11th birthday approaches, everything changes. A giant named Rubeus Hagrid shows up to tell Harry that he is a wizard and invites the boy to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Positive elements include two teachers who are some of the best role models to appear in a kids’ movie. Harry is taught that choosing good over bad makes all the difference as well as the importance of giving up oneself for another. Evil acts of dark-side wizards are criticized. Negative aspects of this movie include a few spots of nasty language, Harry breaking the rules yet being rewarded and of course the overriding concern of Harry’s magic. This movie may cause curiosity about magic, wizards and spells. The danger is children may get their minds filled with falsehoods rather than the truth provided by Christian parents, the Bible and churches.
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Actors: Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Richard Griffiths as Uncle Vernon Dursley, Fiona Shaw as Aunt Petunia Dursley and Harry Melling as Dudley Dursley.
