On the other side of every child’s closet door lies a huge city filled with monsters of every color, stripe and claw. Monstropolis, as it’s called, runs on electricity that is produced by the screams of scared children. So a great number of the monsters work for the power company—Monsters, Inc. They sneak through doors, scaring not-quite-asleep boys and girls. But what no human knows is monsters are as scared of kids as kids are of monsters. The monsters have been taught that humans are toxic, so imagine the panic when a little girl named Boo sneaks through her closet door and attaches herself to one of the monsters.

This movie may scare 4-year-olds, but families should be able to enjoy the ultimate message of safety, kindness, love and friendship. Typical drawbacks such as sexual content, profane language and drugs or alcohol cannot be found in this film. There is fantasy violence that may alarm kids, such as a nightmarish machine built to "extract screams" is tried out as well as some fighting between the monsters. Overall Boo is adorable, and John Goodman is about as cuddly as you’d ever want a monster to be. A plot twist near the end resolves the story in a wonderful way. But we don’t want to ruin the surprise!
