101 Dalmatians

MPAA Rating: PG
Distributor: Buena Vista Pictures
Director: John Hughes
Actors: Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil, Joely Richardson as Anita, Jeff Daniels as Roger, and Mark Williams and Hugh Laurie as Cruella's henchmen.

Adapted from the 1961 animated classic, 101 Dalmatians is a slam-bang live-action remake. When dalmatians Pongo and Perdy meet in the park, it's love at first sight for them and their owners Roger and Anita. The humans marry, and soon Perdy has puppies. But the fashion-obsessed villainess Cruella De Vil dognaps the puppies, hoping to sew their pelts into a fabulous coat. Thrills and spills follow as the dogs try to outsmart Cruella and her bumbling henchmen and rescue the missing pups.

Younger brothers and sisters may be scared by Cruella, a very creepy character. The movie also shows cartoonishly violent scenes of physical comedy, but nobody is seriously hurt. Cruella smokes cigarettes throughout. This movie shows that marriage and parenthood are more important than wealth. The film also encourages kindness to animals, loyalty and diligence. It condemns cruelty, selfishness, greed and mistreating others. Overall, 101 Dalmatians earns its kibble as an enjoyable family film.
