Antz is a computer-animated tale about Z, a restless worker ant who feels small and insignificant. Meanwhile, the ant colony's princess is equally frustrated with her responsibility and lack of independence.
Circumstances throw them together in Central Park where they search for Insectopia (the ant equivalent of paradise). Z and the princess fall in love as they encounter assorted dangers, including a secret plot to wipe out the colony.
Overall, the movie is a lot of fun—the result of funny dialogue, impressive computer imagery, good casting and oldies tunes. Antz also shows how enormous our world must appear to creatures so small that they have to shimmy up a blade of grass.
The film's thrilling climax conveys the importance of loyalty, teamwork and selflessness. Though very entertaining, this insect story has a few bugs. It contains nearly a dozen mild profanities and several crude expressions. Parents of younger children may object to several violent insect deaths and the fact that the ants frequent a bar serving "aphid beer." While the filmmakers have offered a funny ants-eye view, inappropriate language rains down on this otherwise enjoyable picnic.
Distributor: Dreamworks
Actors: The voices of Woody Allen as Z, Sharon Stone as Princess Bala, Sylvester Stallone as Weaver, Christopher Walken, Gene Hackman and many others.
