Dr. Dolittle 2

MPAA Rating: PG
Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Director: Steve Carr
Actors: Eddie Murphy as Dr. Dolittle, Jeffrey Jones as Joseph Potter, Kevin Pollak as Jack Riley, Kristen Wilson as Lisa Dolittle, Raven-Symone as Charisse Dolittle, Kyla Pratt as Maya Dolittle, Lil' Zane as Eric, Steve Irwin as himself along with the voices of Steve Zahn as Archie, Lisa Kudrow as Ava, Norm MacDonald as Lucky and many others.

Dr. Dolittle finds himself in a struggle to save countless woodland creatures and their natural habitat from nasty developers who hunt for sport, build condos and don't contribute to nature-loving organzizations. He must prepare Archie, a spoiled circus bear, to reenter the wild and mate with Ava, the last of the endangered species. This would stop the heavy machinery in its tracks. While Dr. Dolittle is trying to get Ava interested in Archie, he must learn how to communicate with his teenage daughter, Charisse. Possibly a tougher task than saving wildlife!

The script isn't spectacular (bathroom humor and some nasty language pops up), but this film has a good heart. Hit-and-miss gags along with animals that really come alive keep the laughs rolling. Dr. Dolittle and his wife work well as a team and show appropriate affection toward one another. Dr. D. says, "Life wouldn't mean anything if I didn't have my wife and kids to go home to." Evolution and drinking alcohol are topics that arise here and there. But overall, there's something to be said for the unity and understanding portrayed in Dr. Dolittle 2.
