Flubber

MPAA Rating: PG
Distributor: Buena Vista Pictures
Director: Les Mayfield
Actors: Robin Williams as Professor Philip Brainard; Marcia Gay Harden as Sara Jean Reynolds; Jodi Benson as the voice of Weebo.

Professor Phillip Brainard is an absent-minded professor, who, with the help of his assistant, Weebo (a robotic housekeeper), is trying to create a new source of energy. When the college he teaches at threatens to close down, the professor must make a new discovery to save it. He creates "Flubber," a bouncy substance that can make basketball players jump and cars fly. While he’s making scientific breakthroughs, Professor Brainard also discovers that he needs to pay more attention to the people he loves rather than his experiments. And his sweetheart, Sara, realizes she needs to love the professor for who he is, not who she wants him to become.

Although the story is wacky and fun, there are several scenes to be wary of. In one scene, the professor uses Flubber to dishonestly win a basketball game, but it is later recognized as cheating. In another scene, the professor stumbles into the wrong classroom. It happens to be an art class in which there are male and female partially nude models posing for portraits. Also, in one scene a blob of Flubber enters a man's mouth, and eventually comes out his rear, tearing a hole in his pants. Families might find language a problem, too. Flubber has a few problem spots, but it is a warm, funny film that sends a message about acceptance and unconditional love.
