Lola (whose real name is Mary) thinks her life is over when her family moves from New York City to a suburb in New Jersey. And she really thinks it’s over when she finds out her favorite rock group is breaking up. Between the move, a celebrity crush, a new school, new friends and a chance to land the lead role in a school play—Lola’s life is crazy. To make matters worse, the most admired and powerful clique at her new high school is bent on making her life miserable.

Although she’s a rule breaker, Lola has a good heart. She shows compassion by befriending a girl who is a social misfit and standing by her. She doesn’t take things to extremes, and she genuinely cares for her mother and father (who are divorced).

Lola isn't the best example for teen girls. Besides disobeying her parents, Lola doesn’t always dress modestly. She appears in short, form-fitting dresses. The Lord's name is used as an interjection a handful of times along with a few derogatory terms, such as “loser.”

The main thing girls should notice is that Lola’s biggest goals in life—to be popular and to be a famous actress—are so small. God has so much more for young women! Still, Lola does learn lessons along the way. Tween and teen girls who see this film with their moms should find a lot to talk about.
