In 2005's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the
boy wizard's life was changed when he witnessed the
bodily return of Voldemort and the death of one of his
schoolmates at the dark lord's hand. Harry Potter and
the Order of the Phoenix picks up where that tale left off,
with Harry having terrible flashbacks of those events.
As Voldemort builds an army of evil followers in an
attempt to return to power, “good” wizards reunite the
Order of the Phoenix. Harry and his friends create a
similar society at school, where Harry teaches the
others to defend themselves against the dark arts.
This film, like other Potter movies, emphasizes loyalty
and friendship. Harry's friends Ron and Hermione
continually stick with him and stand up for him. In the
end, Harry learns that it's the love and support of his
friends-and his ability to love them back-that makes him
victorious over Voldemort.
The language is slightly less offensive than in the
previous film. And though there are several instances of
disobedience, they happen when the kids disobey
someone who is doing wrong. As Harry's battle with
Voldemort increases, so does the movie's violence. But
the biggest problem with this film is the clash of Potter's
magic with the real-life truth that there is no such thing
as a good witch or wizard. Magic may look appealing in
the movies, but the Bible says no one should practice
sorcery or witchcraft. True power and the ability to
defeat evil comes from God.
