"Best Friends forever!" That's what Cloe, Jade, Yasmin and Sasha promise each other as they enter high school. Even though they are interested in very different things, (Cloe is a soccer champ, while Jade is a science-whiz) the girls vow to stay best friends and to break out of the cliques that have been firmly established in their high school by Meredith, the spoiled principal's daughter.

Meredith resents the girls for befriending other groups, and for their refusal to follow her cafeteria seating chart that keeps everyone separated. When the four friends enter the school talent show, Meredith is determined to keep them from winning the grand prize.

The bratz value relationships and loyalty (“Friendship is a big deal”), condemn the clique mentality and decide to befriend everyone. For example, when Jade's brainy friends are teased, she defends them by saying, “They're not geeks; they're really interesting people.” Even though the message is generally positive, this live-action film is a 111-minute commercial for Bratz merchandise. The four girls in the movie are named after the Bratz dolls. These dolls, which are now more popular than Barbie, often wear low-rise pants, short skirts and shirts that show their stomachs. Even though the girls in the movie are more modest then the dolls, it is questionable as to whether watching the movie, with its predictable plot, is worth supporting an industry that promotes immodesty and girl-power based on looks.
