Fathers
by Kathy Wierenga
In celebration of Father’s Day, Dale Jacobs combed the streets of Odyssey, asking town residents what they appreciate about their dads. Here’s what some of them had to say:

“I appreciate all the little things Dad does. He prays with us before we go to bed and gives us lots of hugs.”—Mandy Straussberg

“Pops has always shown me how to get something for nothing. Like how we package our Christmas lights at the Electric Palace in really big boxes so people think they’re getting more than they actually are . . . oops. What I mean to say is, he’s shown me how to make an honest dollar. Yeah, that’s it.” —Rodney Rathbone

“Not only has my dad been a great example of Christlike living, he’s also shown me how to make the world’s best chocolate shakes!”—Jason Whittaker

“Dad always takes time to hang out with me. We play catch, and he helps me with homework-—although come to think of it, it might be a giant ploy to get me to clean my room. Maybe it’s a top secret conspiracy!?”—Jared DeWhite

“When other people think my blindness limits me, my dad really believes I can do anything. He encourages me to try things I might normally be afraid to do.”—Lisa Mulligan

“My dad has taught me more things than ingredients in Maud’s meat loaf. A few examples of what I’ve learned are: the secret recipe for the Walton family cleaning solution, the key to successful peanut shelling and the dangers of using your mother’s toothbrush to clean between your toes.”—Bernard Walton

“Although my dad lives out in California, I really like Father’s Day. It reminds me that even though my dad on Earth isn’t around much, my heavenly Father is always there for me. And He loves me more than I could ever imagine.”—Connie Kendall

Dale Jacobs and The Odyssey Scoop staff wish each of you a wonderful Father’s Day! Remember to tell your dad what you appreciate about him. And don’t forget to thank your Father in heaven for all He’s done for you!
