The Thankfulness Project
by Kathy Wierenga

Tom Riley has been growing apples on his farm all year in anticipation of the upcoming Thanksgiving Food Drive. His apples are used to make apple pies for Odyssey residents. Coordinator John Avery Whittaker plans to prepare dinner boxes for the less fortunate people living in and around Odyssey.

“Although this is the time of year when we’re thankful for the many things God has blessed us with, it’s also important to remember those who don’t have as much,” Mr. Whittaker explains. He encourages area kids to help with the drive by offering a free sundae for every bag of groceries they donate to the drive.

Dinner boxes, which will include a turkey, canned goods and a homemade apple pie, will be delivered to needy homes the day before Thanksgiving.

David Straussberg likes the idea. “It makes me more thankful because I’m reminded of how much I normally take for granted.”

Lisa Mulligan adds, “I’m thankful we donated all our lima beans.”
