In celebration of the coming new millennium, the Odyssey Scoop wanted to recap Odyssey’s greatest stories of the century.
John Avery Whittaker Opens Whit’s End. One of Odyssey’s most valued teachers decided to open an “ice cream and discovery emporium” in honor of his late wife. She desired not only to save the soon-to-be destroyed Fillmore Recreation Center but also to provide a place for kids to grow, learn and enjoy themselves.
Blackgaard’s Attempt to Take Over Odyssey Thwarted. Former mayoral candidate Dr. Regis Blackgaard was found guilty of illegal activity in his attempts to obtain a rare mineral from the Whit’s End tunnel. No charges were pressed due to Dr. Blackgaard’s presumed death.
Whit Returns to Odyssey. Odyssey’s most acclaimed citizen returned from the Middle East after a multiyear archaeological expedition. The town was abuzz with excitement, and a huge celebration took place.
Timothy Center Opens. Tom Riley, local farmer and former mayor, officially opened the much anticipated “Timothy Center” located on his farm. The center hosts conferences, day activities and camps.
Part of Underground Railroad Found in Whit’s End. It has been discovered that Whit’s End was part of the Underground Railroad, a system that assisted escaped slaves to freedom in the North.
