Something to Celebrate
by Kathy Wierenga

Bernard Walton is having cleaning specials this month to celebrate some not-so-well-known holidays. We asked him how he observed each one.

February 4: Create a Vacuum Day. “Since I always forget Valentine’s Day, I thought my wife, Maude, and I would celebrate this romantic holiday together. I surprised her by taking apart the vacuum, and we spent the entire evening rebuilding it. I think she liked it. She was moved to tears.”

February 5: Disaster Day. “Hee, hee. I told Eugene and Connie to hold a concert in the park. So she sang and he accompanied her on his ukulele. Those poor pigeons will never be the same.”

February 13: Get a Different Name Day. “That day I went by Natasha.”

February 16: Do a Grouch a Favor Day. “I wore a sign that said, ‘Do me a favor . . . leave me alone.’ ”
