A Brother or a Bother?
by Kathy Wierenga

This month, Connie Kendall has agreed to be a guest advice columnist. Here’s her answer to one of the questions recently asked of her.

Dear Connie,

I’m always getting irritated with my little brother. How can I keep from getting annoyed and fighting with him?

Sincerely,
Going Crazy

Dear Going Crazy,

Even though I don’t have a brother myself, Eugene is sort of like a brother to me and, boy, do I know what you mean by annoying. I try to remember three things when I’m getting bothered by him. First of all, Eugene (and your brother) were made in the image of God. And He made them even with their annoying, I mean unique, habits. Secondly, your brother's really a gift. I forget this when I’m really irritated with Eugene, but if he wasn’t around I would miss him. And lastly, I have to keep in mind, believe it or not, that I can be annoying, too. Maybe not as bothersome as Eugene, but I can be a little bossy and obnoxious.

What it all comes down to is that I know Eugene will be a friend for life, just like your brother will be your brother forever. And you really are more fortunate than you think. Personally, I would like to have a brother of my own. (Don’t tell Eugene any of this, though. I don’t want him to get an even bigger head!)

God bless you and your bro,

Connie
