New Drama Debut
by Nathan Hoobler

Kids’ Radio will produce an original story by Mandy Straussberg this weekend. The show stars Mandy, Tom Riley, Bernard Walton, Jack Allen and John Avery Whittaker.

"After the resounding success of Mandy’s two plays in the Little Theatre, I thought it would be great for her to try a radio show," Whit says. "And ‘The Great Wishy Woz’ should be a hit!"

Actors have been busy practicing their lines. "I play a down-to-earth, warmhearted fellow," Tom Riley says about his character, Manny Kin, a department store mannequin in search of knowledge.

"My role is a metal guy named, well, Metal Guy," Bernard Walton says. "He’s looking for love in all the wrong places. I’m glad I don’t have to dress up—all that makeup, all that mess . . . it’s just too much for a janitor."

"I’m Mystic Mountain Lion, a character looking for power," Jack Allen says. "I was a bit nervous about acting, since I usually just narrate, but I think it will turn out just fine."

Eugene Meltsner directs sound design. "The sound effects for this program are especially complex due to the fact this is the first musical we’ve done on Kids’ Radio. Also, it’s a fantasy program, so there are a multitude of effects to create."

When asked why he isn’t acting in this story, Eugene simply replied, "If you’re wondering, it has absolutely nothing to do with my being electrocuted in Mandy’s last play."
