April Fool’s pranks were rampant in Odyssey the first day of April. The day started out with several "For Sale" signs appearing in front of Whit’s End.
"It looked so believable," Wooton Bassett commented. Bassett stopped by for a peanut butter almond chocolate shake that morning. "I called Whit to see if he’d sell me any of those cool napkin holders he has in there."
But that was only the beginning. Posters advertising an upcoming performance of "The Blackgaard Ballet" showed up outside the Harlequin Theatre. Blackgaard’s assistant, Walter Shakespeare, said he’d received more inquiries for tickets to the ballet than any other show in months.
"However," he added, "such a production will never take place. Mr. Blackgaard doesn’t look good in pink."
Bernard Walton went to work wearing two left shoes. Apparently all his right ones mysteriously disappeared. "It’s not so bad, except I’m wearing one work boot and one bowling shoe. Have you ever tried carrying a squeegee up a ladder wearing a bowling shoe?"
The perpetrator of these pranks was finally discovered when Connie Kendall accidentally admitted her responsibility. The newspaper tried to contact Kendall, but she wasn’t available for comment.
"She’s too busy unwrapping 16 rolls of plastic wrap from her car," explained Walton, who, strangely enough, was carrying 16 empty rolls of plastic wrap to a local garbage bin.
