Controversial July 4th Broadcast
by Nathan Hoobler

Radio host Bryan Dern hosted a special broadcast to discuss Independence Day with guest Edwin Blackgaard. Blackgaard is performing a one-man production of the Revolutionary War battle at Charlestown. Dern mentioned that the production is getting mixed reviews, but Blackgaard pointed out that everyone has complimented the stage department because there are dozens of costume changes.

The broadcast turned into something of a fiasco when Dern got into an argument with Blackgaard about the war itself. Dern claimed that Blackgaard shouldn’t like Independence Day since he’s British: "It was the Americans versus the British! We beat you guys and you should be bitter about it. I mean, I’d be bitter if I were you!"

Dern’s station later apologized to the British citizens of Odyssey. "We hold people of all nationalities in high regard," Casey Parker, station manager, said. "Mr. Dern shouldn’t have said what he said."

Dern, however, refused to apologize. "I stand by everything I’ve ever said." He also stated he’d be boycotting English muffins and tea for a week in protest.
