Odyssey Folks Try to Beat the Rain
by Nathan Hoobler

More than a week of rain in Odyssey has led meteorologists to say this will probably be the wettest fall the city has experienced in nearly 50 years. Officials are watching for possible floods.

Health experts have noted that the dreary weather has also caused an increase in mild depression among Odyssey residents. One local business has found a way to liven up the rainy days. John Avery Whittaker, owner of Whit’s End, announced yesterday that the shop is holding "Don’t Blame It on the Rain Day" this weekend.

"This will show people that you can have fun no matter what your situation," Whit explained.

The primary activity will be a belly slide down the hill behind Whit’s End. Participants will compete to see who can get the muddiest. Local mailman Wooton Bassett has reportedly said he’ll shave his head if anyone can beat him.

The Electric Palace is also taking advantage of the showers. Bart Rathbone said the store would be offering free umbrellas with every purchase of an electronic rain gauge. Answering charges from several customers who claimed their umbrellas leaked when wet, Rathbone said, "Hey, I never said they were waterproof umbrellas. What do they expect for free?"
