This week Odyssey Middle School celebrated the end of another school year. But this celebration was not your typical “cookies and punch” classroom party. With unseasonably warm temperatures and kids anxious to get out of the classroom, school officials dubbed the final day of school a “Wet and Wild Farewell.”
After a morning of final tests, the students raced to participate in an all-school water war. Armed with water guns, buckets, water balloons and loads of pent-up energy, students spent the afternoon spraying, dousing and drenching their classmates.
Student Marvin Washington thought the afternoon was great. “It was awesome!” he said. “I got to use my new Super Splasher 10,000 to spray all my friends!”
Fellow student, Liz Horton had a slightly different tactic. “I snuck up behind Marvin and broke a water balloon over his head,” she said. “He was totally shocked!”
As a grand finale, the Odyssey Fire Department made a surprise appearance and sprayed the kids with a large hose from one of its fire trucks. The students were thrilled with this wet ending to the school year, which may become an Odyssey Middle School tradition.
