| 1/1/05 — Hi! Alex Jefferson here! Welcome to the
newest addition to my Web site. I started this blog
because I know stuff — stuff about Odyssey. I'll give you
the inside scoop on the subject I know second best —
my hometown! (I didn't figure it would help anyone to
tell them how modems work.)
In case you're wondering why people would want to
know what's happening in this laid-back small town,
here are my top five reasons why Odyssey is so
interesting:
- At Odyssey's Harlequin Theatre, you can see the
world's only production of the musical "Oklahoma" set
in Alaska.
- At 6 a.m., you can watch the sunrise. At 6:15 a.m.,
you can watch Wooton Bassett, our mailman, who's late
for his route, slide at a dangerous speed out of his
house. (Yes, on an actual slide!)
- Mr. Whittaker always has something really wise to
say. Just yesterday he told me that "bad company
corrupts good character." This reinforced my New
Year's resolution to stay as far away from Rodney
Rathbone as possible.
- In a small town like Odyssey, everybody knows
everything about everybody. And everybody seems to
be OK with that.
- Where else can you go to an ice cream place,
create an active volcano in the morning, travel to
ancient Israel in the afternoon, save the world from an
evil scientist in the evening — and still be home in time
for supper?
The truth is, I love Odyssey. A lot of people think it
needs more movie theaters and video arcades. But to
me there's a lesson to be learned in every corner of this
small town. And lessons learned in life are a lot more
important than points scored in video games.
Don't forget to look for the next edition of my blog! —A.J.
