| Q. |
I am going to be baptized, but I’m too shy to go in front of everyone at my church. What should I do? Kayleigh, 8 New Brunswick |
| A. |
Many people—children and adults—are afraid to be in front of a crowd. Some experts say picturing the audience in their underwear will help calm your nerves, but that seems like silly advice. The best idea is to remember why you want to be baptized. Simply stated, baptism shows the world that you are reborn as a believer in Christ. You do it to please God, not your church, your parents or your friends. Romans 1:16 says, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes." You may want to memorize that verse. Then pray to God and ask Him for power and strength as you stand up for Him and show your church you’ve made the decision to follow Jesus. |
