Questions & Answers

Q. I want to be a baker and have my own bakery. If this is what God wants me to do, how could I use it for His glory?

A. Dreams are great. They inspire us to work hard and accomplish our goals. Dreams are also God’s idea, because He has a special plan for our lives. Many kids dream about what they’ll be when they grow up—an NBA basketball player, a doctor, an astronaut—but their plans may change as they discover their talents and God leads them in a different direction.

So how can we know if our dream is what God wants us to do? Knowing God’s will can be tricky. Spend time doing things related to your dream. Try out new recipes or make up some of your own. You could even try selling some of your baked goods at garage sales or church bake sales. Call a few bakeries and ask the bakers about their jobs.

Learning as much as you can about the profession will help you to know if the baking business is for you. If you still want to be a baker, realize God has given you that desire and you can use it to serve Him. First Corinthians 10:31 says, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

You can serve God in any job. Give Him glory by working hard and sharing your faith with co-workers. You can even use your talent to help the church and those in need.
