| Q. |
Sometimes my friends make fun of me because my parents are very strict about the movies I watch and the people I spend time with. What should I do? Blake, 12 Florida |

You are fortunate to have parents who care enough about you to set limits. But being made fun of, for any reason, is anything but fun. Try talking to your friends about the things you have in common—movies you both can see, school subjects or sports. Don’t make a big deal out of your parents’ rules. If you’re always talking about them, your friends may feel like you’re judging them. Think about the rules your parents have set. Do you agree with them? Chances are you do, so you should make them your own. Your peers will respect you more if you say, "I don’t want to watch that movie because . . ." than if you always blame it on your parents’ restrictions. Sometimes teasing can’t be avoided. Many people made fun of Jesus when He was on earth. But if you’re obeying your parents and doing what’s right, you can know that when teasing comes you’re standing up for Christ. |
