| Q. |
I hear a lot of people talk about the Golden Rule. What is the Golden Rule? Erin, 11 Ohio |
| A. |
Jesus states the Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12: "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Basically you are encouraged to treat others the way you want to be treated. To actually live out the Golden Rule takes imagination and knowledge. You must imagine yourself in the shoes of the person on the receiving end of your action. Then you need to know what effect your actions will have on the life of the other person. Although the Golden Rule seems simple, it’s a difficult thing to put into practice. Our hearts are inconsistent. Therefore we need the Holy Spirit to help us. Remember the Golden Rule, but ask God to provide you with the strength to measure up. |
