Questions & Answers

Q. Two of my friends constantly fight with me. When I try to talk out the problem, they plug their ears and walk away. Later they pretend like the fight never happened, but the pain stays in my heart. What can I do?

A. Bickering buddies can really bring you down. But stopping your friends from fighting has a lot to do with you. "A gentle answer turns away wrath," Proverbs says. If you feel an argument brewing, try not to join in. Think about recent arguments you had with your friends. Is there anything you could have done to keep them from becoming hurtful?

When unavoidable quarrels arise, you can't force your friends to work things out. But you can pray for them. Ask God to change their attitudes and make them willing to resolve arguments. When they pretend fights never happened, tell them your feelings are hurt. If they won't listen to you, continue to pick fights and don't care about your feelings, then you may want to think about finding new friends.
