| Q. |
I write stories, but some people think my stories are dumb. Sometimes I think they’re right. Can you help me? Heather, 12 Missouri |

Don’t be discouraged by what other people say. Every story you write is a special creation. Even great writers had to do a lot of writing before they came up with their best stories. Just because you don’t write like a pro now doesn’t mean that you won’t write like one in the future. Try these ideas to make your writing better. Read lots of well-written stories. Classic books are a good place to start. Ask your teachers or parents to read your stories and give you suggestions on things you could improve. Write for your school newspaper or yearbook. And don’t give up if people don’t like a story the first time. Creating a good story takes lots of rewriting. Most importantly, keep at it! The fact that you like to write shows that you have the potential to be an awesome writer. |
