| Q. |
I have a hard time winding down at night. Sometimes I can't get to sleep until very late. Help me! Brooke, 10 Missouri |
| A. |
In the December 2001 issue, we asked readers to answer Brooke’s question. Here are some of the responses:
Try counting sheep! Just kidding. (I’ve tried; it didn’t work.) What I do is think of what I did during the day and pray to God for help.
Sometimes when I am wound up at night, I listen to an "Adventures in Odyssey" tape in my headphones. Then I close my eyes and turn off the tape; I usually fall asleep right away.
I used to have the same problem. This is how I solved it: I don’t do anything active before bed. I think of all the good things that have happened during the day. And before I know it, I’m sleeping like a baby.
Sometimes I have the same problem. I put on some soft music, like jazz or Mozart, and listen to it.
You might want to try chamomile tea or reading. If you want to read the Bible, you may want to look at Matthew 11:25-30.
Before my dad gave me advice, I had a hard time sleeping. He told me the only reason I couldn’t sleep was because God wanted me to pray for someone I knew in need. Try it! It will help you sleep.
I’ve had that problem, too. Maybe the Lord just wants to spend some time with us. I decided to try what Psalm 119:148 says: "My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises." Once I started talking with Him, He comforted me so I could fall asleep. |
