| Q. |
My friend believes in another god. How can I get him to believe in the real God in heaven? Wesley, 9 New York

Many people believe in different gods. That’s a sad fact, because Jesus Christ clearly said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Since Jesus is the only way to get to heaven, it’s great that you want your friend to believe in Him. But here’s the tricky part: it’s really hard to force a person to believe in something. Because twisting your friend’s arm behind his back until he accepts Christ won’t work, you might try these ideas: 1. Pray for your friend. Ask God’s Holy Spirit to soften his heart to God’s truth. The Bible says God draws people to Himself. Pray that your friend will be drawn to the only true God. 2. Explain to your friend the differences between his god and your God. Christianity is the only religion that says you can’t do anything to earn your way to heaven. Eternal life is a gift to anyone who believes. Only Jesus can give it, because only He led a perfect life, died for everybody’s sins, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. 3. Show God’s love. Treat your friend with kindness. Be patient. Let your words and actions demonstrate what it means to be a Christian. And then trust in God’s timing for your friend’s salvation. Have faith, Wesley! |
