| Q. |
What would you do if you said something mean to somebody and hurt her feelings? You said you were sorry and she forgave you, but you still have the guilt. Kerryn, 11 Zimbabwe |
| A. |
Ouch! Words can hurt. And once they come out of your mouth, you can’t take them back. Proverbs 12:18 says, "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." You’ve already taken the first step to healing the relationship by asking for your friend’s forgiveness. You can’t undo the words you’ve spoken, but you can make an effort to say kind things to your friend from now on. Each time you choose to speak loving words, your friend will trust you more. If you’re still feeling guilty, talk to God about it. He doesn’t want you to carry the burden of guilt. Instead, thank Him for giving you second chances. |
