| Q. |
I'm overweight, and my dad bugs me about it. He tells me what to eat and when to exercise. Help! Sara, 12 Indiana |
| A. |
God loves you no matter how much you weigh. And if you love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself, then you're on a healthy spiritual diet of God's commandments.
Don't let Dad get you down. He loves you, too, and is concerned for your health. Everybody needs exercise, no matter what. Instead of getting bugged, get your father (and the rest of your family) to particpate in a fitness program. Turn getting into shape and watching what you eat into a fun family activity.
Decide how long this healthy competition should last (one month, 12 weeks). Start exercising by yourself or with a group. Go for a walk with Dad or jump rope with your brother. Encourage one another and keep a chart on the refrigerator of what type of exercise each person did and how long it lasted. The most important part is to have a healthy view of your own body. Keep in mind that God created each human being as an individual, so you're unique. And that makes you special! |
