Questions & Answers

Q. My parents want me to play a sport that I don't want to play. I tell them I don't want to, but they insist. Help!

A. Remember your first mouthful of brussels sprouts? You had to taste them before you could figure out if they were good or not. And even if you didn’t like how they tasted, the little green lumps were still good for you. Maybe that’s why your parents want you involved in a sport. They think meeting other kids and getting some exercise would be good for you. Make an agreement with your parents that you’ll try the sport for one season, but after the final game is over, all three of you will decide about continuing. Offer to try something else if the sport they picked isn’t a good match. Trusting your parents’ judgment is tough, so pray for God’s wisdom and strength. He knows exactly why Mom and Pop want you in a sport even if you’re clueless.
