| Q. |
I have trouble keeping my temper and it makes my mother mad. How can I stop being so angry? Summer, 9 Illinois |
| A. |
Short fuses can cause trouble. Ephesians 4:26 says, "In your anger do not sin." Anger is not wrong. The way you choose to handle that anger is where the problem can start. "Losing your temper" typically implies yelling or acting violently, which are not appropriate ways to express anger. You need to find good ways to show your angry feelings instead of letting them build up to an explosion. Keeping a journal may be helpful. When you're angry, write down how you feel and why you're upset. This may help you identify patterns. What situations make you angry? Once you know what lights your fuse, you can be on guard when you're in those situations. God is pleased that you want to honor your mom by working on your temper problem. Ask Him to help you to keep control when things get heated, and you'll have more success keeping your cool. |
