| Q. |
When my mom says it's time to clean up, I get grumpy and this is becoming an addiction. Can you help? David, 9 Oklahoma |
| A. |
If the thought of picking up a big mess or dragging out the vacuum doesn’t make you jump for joy, you’re not alone. For most people work isn’t their favorite activity. But Philippians 2:4 says to "do everything without complaining." Everything?! That’s a pretty tall order. But to be cheerful when mom asks you to help, remember the One you’re really working for. When you obey your mom, you’re serving God. As you clean, think about God as your boss. You want to do your best for Him, right? To make cleaning more exciting, think of your job as a secret mission. You can make it fun by playing music or timing yourself to see how fast you can finish while still doing it completely. If Mom’s requests seem to come at a bad time, ask her if you can make a chart of your responsibilities and agree on a time when you’ll do them each day. Then you can help out without her having to ask! |
