Questions & Answers

Q. My mom is stressed but doesn’t have time to rest. I think it started when we got Gracie (our dog). What can I do to help her?
John, 10
Arkansas

A. Start by scratching behind her ears and rubbing her stomach. And don’t forget lots of clean water. . . .

Oh, you mean your mom, not the dog.

In that case, try these ideas. First, make sure you’re helping out around the house. Clear your dishes when you’re finished eating, and even offer to wash all the dishes some nights. Clean your room without being asked and keep your stuff around the house picked up. Next, do what you can so Gracie isn’t causing more work for your mom. Feed her, walk her, clean up after her—and that means clean up everything. Then make sure your mom knows how much you appreciate her. Saying "I love you" or giving her a hug can take loads of stress off your mom’s shoulders. Finally, don’t forget to pray for your mom. Ask God to give her extra strength, patience and energy. Only God can supernaturally bust your mom’s stress.
