Questions & Answers

Q. I hate sharing a room! There are three kids in my family, so no matter what, I have to share. Can you help?

A. Sharing a room is one of the most common kid complaints. Lot’s of kids have to bunk with a brother or sister. But guess what! God loves it when we share. So think of this as a spiritual boot camp. Giving up some privacy and having to share space with a sibling may be hard sometimes, but you can bet that God is using it to shape you into an unselfish person. Plus, when you get older and go to college, you’ll already know what it’s like to have a roommate.

Here are some ideas to make sharing more bearable:

  • Make sure you each have your own space. See if your sib will agree to stay out of your space when you ask. Maybe you could make a special sign that indicates when you’re busy or don’t want to be bothered.

  • Just because you share a room doesn’t mean you have to share EVERYTHING. Agree to ask before using the other person’s stuff.

  • Try doing fun things together that make sharing enjoyable. Set up fun traditions in your room, like playing games or listening to tapes before bed.
