| Q. |
My parents have been redecorating. During this time, they've been arguing. I heard a couple of fights, and it makes me feel bad. What can I do?

Nobody likes to hear her parents argue. And the fact is, married people do fight. Arguing in a marriage isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When two people live together, there will be differences of opinion. Sometimes those things need to be talked out and debated. Fighting in a marriage becomes unhealthy when it turns into name-calling or gets physical. But knowing this probably doesn’t change how you’re feeling. That’s why you need to explain your emotions to your parents. Let them know you feel bad when they argue and want to know that they still love each other and are committed to one another. And if you think your parents have developed bad habits in their fighting, try to point them out by saying something like, “Dad, I don’t like when you put down Mom.” At the end of your talk, you may even want to suggest that your parents kiss and make up.
