When my brother, Gordon, was 3 months old, he was diagnosed with polio from taking the oral polio vaccine. My mom was so strong and showed a lot of courage in those months at the hospital. We really had to trust God to pull us through the hard times.
Now Mom is trying to keep other children from getting polio. In March of 1998, she talked to many people about the risk of taking an oral vaccine for polio. During the fall of 1998, my parents went to Denver, Colorado, and met with members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I am very proud to say that since their trip, the committee handling vaccines in the United States recommended polio vaccines be given as shots [which are considered safer].
My brother is 7 years old and attends Nova Elementary School. He’s on a ventilator but is very active even though most of his body is paralyzed. Gordon plays and talks on the computer. He likes reading and listening to tapes.
I love my mom and brother. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior on September 8, 1992, two days after my mom’s birthday, and trust God very much.
