Cycling Crash

In October 1999, just two months after my family moved to Belgium, my dad had a very bad bicycle accident. My mom and dad were riding down a hill, when my dad’s front tire got stuck in a rut. He flew off his bike and hit his head on a pole.

Thankfully Dad was wearing his helmet because it broke in half. His right side and back hit a stone wall. He had a broken shoulder, several broken ribs and a punctured lung. But most difficult of all, he became paralyzed from the waist down. He had to stay for nine months at a hospital in Switzerland that specializes in helping paralyzed people. Dad learned how to do most things while sitting in a wheelchair.

Even though the accident has been very difficult for my dad and my family, God has worked through this situation. God allowed my grandparents to come from the United States and help out. God provided an excellent hospital in Switzerland for my father. We also know many people are giving more thought to what God means in their lives because of the accident.

Now I’m so happy my earthly father is back with us in Belgium. And I know my heavenly Father will always take care of us.
